Chollo Games

Chollo Games isn’t the easiest place to spot, located inside an unassuming shopping arcade, the Centro Comercial Arenal. Whether you approach it from the Calle del Arenal entrance or the one on Calle de Tetuán, you could very easily miss that there’s even a shopping arcade in the first place.
Then, once you’ve found that and are inside, you need to work out that the store is upstairs.
However, if you like retro video games, oh my goodness is it worth taking the time to track down the store: this place is a mecca for retro gamers!
Inside there were games for all sorts of consoles: Xbox, PlayStation, Saturn, Dreamcast, Mega Drive, Master System, Atari Jaguar, Atari 2600, Vectrex, NES/Famicom, Super Nintendo/Super Famicom…
…you get the idea.
As well as the classic titles, there were also a decent number of Japanese imports too, a lot of which I didn’t recognise, so I’m guessing they weren’t all released in the west.
It’s not just games either; there were several Gameboys, a Jaguar, a Vectrex, a few Game & Watches, a couple of Super Nintendos, and more, plus peripherals.
I’m very, very impressed with this store, and I don’t hesitate in saying it’s a hidden gem that anyone with even the slightest interest in retro gaming should visit.
Instructions: From Calle del Arenal, you’re looking for a doorway in a green building, next to ‘Yves Rocher’. From Calle de Tetuán, you’re looking for an entrance between ‘Compro Oro’ and ‘Rocky Latino Asador’. Either way, head for the stairs and go up one floor.
